Hi Nice Twollars Folks,
RE: A
CarbonTwollars Experiment
To Give "Twollars" is already such a great movement and it has grown
large and fast. Here is
an idea to make it even stronger.
Please consider Give "CarbonTwollars" a special category within
Twollars. I have dedicated my Tweets @CarbonTwollar
to @ecoTwollars
and decided to initiate the CarbonTwollar Experiment for the following
reasons.
- A viral and fast grassroots
complementary currency is needed to the slow-inertia top-down
Carbon-credit. Some say Carbon-credits so far haven't saved a single
ton of output, they just redistributed it. But even if they may work,
innovative complementary grassroots solutions still can be created and
perhaps fairly fast. CarbonTwollars could be a good step in the right
way.
- Via the short format of tweets
peers can quickly decide if the micro-act is in fact deceptively
simple, so thought and effort went into it; it is genuine, and
most importantly: - it was completed. (Tweets are about what people are
doing right now, so presumably a proud Tweet will be also sent when the
action is completed :-)
- Twitters, then, are able to
donate CarbonTwollars for a lot of different but very important
activities. Showering in drought-stricken Australia for just 2 minutes
is fast and effective. It could earn CarbonTwollar for #WaterSaving.
Intentional carpooling in Shanghai - one of the highest polluter cities
in the world - could earn CarbonTwollar for #PollutionSaving and so on.
- Hashtags are already getting
out of hand, so it would be better to Give CarbonTwollars for an
#Inventive #ResourceSaving and/or #PollutionSaving activity. (Stays
within 3 #hashtags maximum.)
@Tagalus and others will, then, be able to catalogue the #hash-tags
under CarbonTwollars and thus a fast and categorised library could be
built of genuine grassroots activities and ideas that are proven work
for each climate region.
In the end, Twollar associated businesses will pay REAL money to
charities that are already preocuppied with helping climate change
victims (disaster victims and ecological refugees) to do their job
easier and better.
This could greatly
increase the clout and scope of your support
businesses!
Everyone wins, a grass-roots climate awareness grows and all it started
was a simple idea: "Telling
the world what are you doing right now."
Warmly,
Otto Newhouse
