way cool greenback

What is it again...?

EcoTwollar is a people-sourced participative green thank-you token. It is used to thank for conserving the environment and helping nature in a meaningful and fun way. The idea at its inception was to weave and ferment micro-streams of innovation with an "eco-thank-you" on a social network. It was created on a wiki platform by Placemark director Otto Newhouse in partnership with the Multi-currency initiative of Twollars (May-June 2009.)

How to give your tokens away...?

To be able to give ecoTwollar, you have to be on Twitter.

Then, consider giving ecoTwollar for a demonstrated innovative act of ecological goodwill that saved or conserved resources, or added a little but meaningful bit to reducing our ecological footprint - carbon, water, methane, whatever...any polluting output, or scarce resources may count.

You need to "trust but verify." To be able to do that, you need to be able to verify with a degree of certainty that the thing you give ecoTwollar for actually happened.

So first, look for some kind of record or proof. If there is none, ask for them. Preferabley in photos or clip with a link in the tweet.

This is a very important step.

Trust, but verify...

Yes, Eco-currency is way cool. But the idea is not just to make you feel good. It is to be given for ACTUAL ACTS you are convinced have been COMPLETED to good effect. The visual record (TweetPic, Youtube clip or BubbleTweet to name some) is to allow you to freely verify what you trust. If you like this, join in and become part of the movement...

Just by being on Twitter you already have a 100 #ecoTwollar Tws balance.

Let's recap this: 4 Steps to give EcoTwollar...

2 steps to qualify for more tokens:

  1. Think up a simple and clever way you personally can save or preserve. Do it. Shoot a short video or a picture and locate it on Google map. This way,  somebody else will be able to see the result of your action and verify it.
  2. TWEET IT with a link to the clip. When another ecoTwollar user will find your tweet and like it you WILL GET gifted in ecoTwollars...
...But don't just wait for this...Seek out others You can gift.

2 more steps before you give your tokens away:

  3. Convinced someone done something practical, verifiable and YOU LIKE IT?
  4. Claim your free tokens, then give some to that someone.

But before you click the button to give them away, don't forget to ADD good meaningful hashtags as your own "Because..." reason.

Some examples hashtags for what we think could be meaningful reasons to choose and why:

"#saving #water" -- if you think the act you thank actually saved water by a verifyable amount.

"#saving #energy" -- if you think it actually saved energy by a verifyable amount.

It recycled something, say plastic...? Add "#recycling #plastic"

It saved greenhouse gas, say CO2, by whatever small, but meaningful amount...? Add "#saving #CO2"

Is it a purposeful and doable idea that will inspire others to act...? -- Add "#biofuel #idea" (If it is about biofuel. Otherwise add other resource as relevant.)

    Put your thinking hat on...

You will likely get more resourceful as you go.

Now claim your 100 tokens with your twitter username

... and start using this green participative ecological currency to weave more eco-streams. (your intial balance is 100 #ecoTwollars Tws)
